Dedication 

To all those teachers, parents and grandparents who for many decades supported one-room rural school education in Upper Burlington.

Acknowledgement

This brief volume could not have been written without the contribution of photos, stories, and documents by many former students and teachers. Several graciously consented to interviews, which often brought unexpected and valuable details. The names of contributors will not be listed to avoid omitting any in that large group. It was also fortunate that a quantity of old numbers of the Journal of Education and other documents were left in the school attic, so a thank you goes out to the anonymous individuals who put them there.

Other sources of information include the holdings of the West Hants Historical Society, an organization that deserves the support of all who wish to preserve a record of past life in our West Hants communities. Holdings of the Nova Scotia Archives and Record Management, both at the building and on the Internet were useful to collect and corroborate information, especially microfilm copies of the Hants Journal with its many decades of Upper Burlington news. It is hoped that further information will be obtained from individuals and organizations, especially for the period before 1900, to extend and enrich this record for future editions.

Errors of fact and grammar have no doubt escaped the proofreading process. Please email us to report these, and also to offer new information to improve any subsequent editions of this history.
